A sparkling and feminine experience at Vinitaly.

31.03.16

In 1967 there were only men. During the Wine Days the public was almost exclusively of men. It took a long time but today many competent and aware women take part in all the events of the sector – Vinitaly in particular.

And like Vinitaly, Bepin De Eto, too, will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary with an important feminine contribution, well represented in the Ceschin family’s company.

“The times in which wine was only a men’s thing are over”, Ettore, the head of the family, says. “Today more than ever”, he adds, “women are the protagonists of this world. Simple enthusiasts, sommeliers, oenologists or wine producers, each of them makes an essential and very personal contribution”, the head of the family concludes. In fact, his daughters Giuseppina, Cristina and Silvia assist him in the management of the company. Enthusiastic and projected into the future, they collect a baton, which is also the synthesis of a life of affection, of experiences made literally on the field and shared with mum Bruna. But, if the familiarity with vineyards, research, everyday work are part of this family’s history, it is essential to remember that the sense of smell, the sense of taste, sensitivity are also a mere gender matter. Various research projects, among which that by the Marketing Department of Milan’s SDA Bocconi School of Management, commissioned by Associazione Nazionale Donne del Vino (National Associated Women in Wine), have shown that women’s sense of smell and taste are more sensitive than men’s. Basically, it can be stated that if in a glass of wine a man senses and recognizes five or six aromas, a woman will sense two or three more. This is probably due to a greater number of receptors. As to women’s capability to cooperate and to promote Italian wines in the world, we can say that the results are evident to all. “I believe that this edition of Vinitaly will be a success, with a further growing of women’s business” Donatella Cinelli Colombini, the President of Associazione Nazionale Donne del Vino (National Associated Women in Wine), says. Associazione Nazionale Donne del Vino is considered one of Italy’s most interesting and active expressions of women’s entrepreneurship. On the occasion of Vinitaly’s 50th anniversary, the association will be present with a series of initiatives aimed at highlighting the importance of the role of women in the wine production chain. Important meeting opportunities, which confirm the link between Vinitaly and women.
